Ethiopia Academy of Finance Launches New Identity to Advance Financial-Sector Excellence
Addis Ababa,Sep 30/2026 (ABN)
The Ethiopia Academy of Finance (EAF), formerly known as the Ethiopia Institute of Financial Studies, has launched a new institutional identity as part of a broader transformation designed to strengthen financial-sector education, research and professional development in Ethiopia.
The new identity was unveiled in the presence of H.E. Dr. Eyob Tekalign, Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), marking a significant new chapter for the institution, which operates under the National Bank of Ethiopia.
The transformation reflects EAF’s ambition to establish itself as a center of excellence for developing the skills, knowledge and professional capabilities required by Ethiopia’s evolving financial sector. The institution is strengthening its governance framework while modernizing training delivery and expanding its focus on research and professional development.

A central element of the transformation is the introduction of a fully digital learning management system, enabling EAF to provide modern and more accessible learning opportunities for financial-sector professionals. The digital platform is expected to support flexible training approaches and enhance the Academy’s ability to respond to changing industry requirements.
EAF is also establishing a dedicated research function to strengthen its contribution to financial-sector knowledge and policy-oriented research. The initiative is intended to create greater capacity for generating insights relevant to banking, insurance, microfinance and other areas of Ethiopia’s financial system.
The Academy is simultaneously investing in the renovation of its Akaki Campus, strengthening the physical infrastructure required for education, professional training and research activities.
As part of its international engagement, EAF has announced partnerships with the College of Insurance Kenya and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. The collaborations will support the development of EAF’s Insurance Academy and Banking and Microfinance Academy, bringing international expertise and knowledge-sharing opportunities into its professional education programs.
The partnerships are expected to contribute to stronger professional standards and expanded capacity in key segments of Ethiopia’s financial industry. They also provide opportunities for collaboration, institutional learning and the exchange of international experience.
The transformation comes at a time when Ethiopia’s financial sector is undergoing significant development, creating increasing demand for specialized expertise, digital capabilities, research and continuous professional education.
Through its new identity, strengthened governance, digital learning platform, research capacity, upgraded campus and international partnerships, the Ethiopia Academy of Finance is positioning itself to play a broader role in developing the human capital required for Ethiopia’s financial-sector growth.
The renewed EAF represents an expanded institutional commitment to financial education, research, professional excellence and capacity building, supporting the development of a more skilled and knowledgeable financial-sector workforce for Ethiopia’s next chapter.
